India’s Current Engagement of FTAs and PTAs


Global System of Trade Preferences (GSTP)

Forty four developing countries joined together to form this Group, and signed the agreement on 13th april 1988

  • India exchanged concessions with 14 countries. 

  • India granted tariff concessions on 31 items

  • Received tariff concessions on a wide range of items of the 14 countries. 

Similar bilateral agreements signed with 12 more countries in the second round, are yet to be implemented.
Special Ministerial Session on 16th June 2004, started the 3rd round of negotiations under GSTP.  The negotiations have commenced in November 2004 and likely to be concluded by November 2006.
