Trade pattern (Coconut)Export patternIndia's share in world trade Though India is the third largest producer of coconut in the world, its relative share in the international trade of coconut products is insignificant as compared to other major producing countries like Philippines, Indonesia and Sri-lanka. India trades in major coconut products such as copra, coconut oil, desiccated coconut, copra meal (coconut cake) and coir. However, compared to the production of coconuts, the quantity traded is quite low. Moreover compared to other crops in Kerala, coconut products are relatively less traded . The total value of India's exports of coconut products increased from Rs. 25.30 crores in 2001-02 to Rs.43.65 crores in 2005-06, which is quite insignificant, given the area under the crop and level of production. Of the 11 important items related to coconuts exported by India, coconut oil accounted for lionshare (62.79%) of the value of exports in 2005-06 as may be seen in the following Table. Shell charcoal and coconut dried (copra) contributed 14.69% and 5.34% respectively. Export of coconut products from India
