Trade Pattern ( Cardamom)Import patternIndia's Import The import of cardamom (both small and large) into India has been increasing since 2003-04. It has increased from 4191 tonnes valued at Rs. 44.87 crores in 2003-04 to 5416 tonnes valued at Rs. 45.05 crores in 2005-06. Nepal and Gautemala are the leading exporters of cardamom into India. The imported cardamom is mainly used for the production of oleoresin. The share of other cardamom in imports has been steadily rising from 5.97% in 2003-04 to 41.80% in 2006-07, The import of other cardamom, includes cardamom small, cardamom powder, cardamom husk and cardamom oleoresins. The import of cardamom into India for the period 2003-04 to 2005-06 is shown in the following bar chart. It shows that the import of cardamom is increasing over the years and large cardamom contributes over 90% of the imports. The following table shows the growth of import of other cardamom into India in terms of quantity during 2003-04 to 2005-06.
