Commodity Prices (Ginger)Market Price
In the international markets the demand is primarily for Cochin/Calicut ginger from India. Cochin ginger fetches a premium price in the world market because of its superior quality. When the prices shot up in 2004-05, the farmers, who had abandoned the crop in certain countries the year before, took up its cultivation in 2005 and that has pushed the prices down in 2006. During 2001-02, the price has exhibited a downward trend due to excess supply and poor demand from exporters and local traders. The monthly average prices have touched a low of Rs. 2100 per quintal in Kozhikode market of Kerala. Lack in demand amid bumper arrivals witnessed during December and January kept pressures on prices. Lower export demand has also weighed on the market. http://www.toenre.ac.in/seminar/sem1-manjuk.htm
