Indian Scenario

  • Exports constitute only a small fraction of the production.  It was hovering around 6% during the last three years, in contrast to approximately 15% in 2000-01.
  • Saudi Arabia has been the largest importer with 42 % of the quantity and 47 % of the value in 2004-05. Japan was the second largest importer with 39.5 % stock in quantity and 34.8 % of the value of imports. Malaysia came third with a stock of 5.5%.  India’s’ export to SAARC countries is negligible. However ASEAN accounts for around 5 – 6 % of the exports. Saudi Arabia accounts for 42% and Japan 39% of India’s exports (2004-05) in quantity.

Export of value-added product from cardamom like cardamom oil and cardamom oleoresins are increasing to Germany, Netherlands and UK.
