USA has been the major export market for India accounting for 45% followed by Canada (11%) in 2002-03. It is striking to note the steep decline in the export of pepper from india to US from 11035 tonnes in 2000 to just 2196 tonnes in 2004. During the same period the export of Vietnam to US rose by almost 5 tonnes from 3744 to 18313 tonnes. This was mainly due to the cost competition of Vietnam.
