Coconut Oil Cake/Coconut Meal

Coconut cake is the residue left after the extraction of oil from copra which is mainly used as a cattle feed. This oil is generally used for industrial purpose and de-oiled cake is used to make mixed cattle feed. Coconut cake from expellers has a residual oil content of 6 - 10%, depending on the efficiency of these expellers. The moisture content is 1 - 2%. The oil content of solvent extracted cake range between 0.5 - 2% depending on the efficiency of solvent extraction.

Regional research laboratory, Trivandrum has perfected the technology for production of Phytase from coconut oil cake with Rhisopus oligosporus. Phytase is used commercially in the animal feed industry to improve animal performance.
